Check the full WAEC 2025 timetable and get helpful tips to prepare, avoid missing exam dates, and stay ready for success in this year’s WAEC exam.
When Will the 2025 WAEC Start and End?
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the full timetable for the 2025 May/June school candidates’ exam. According to the schedule, the exam will start on Thursday, 24th April 2025, with Foods and Nutrition 3 (Practical) Planning Session as the opening paper.
The examination will run for about two months, ending on Friday, 20th June 2025, with the final subject listed as Physical Education 2 (Essay) and Physical Education 1 (Objective).
This means that WAEC 2025 will last for almost 9 weeks, covering both theory and practical subjects. Within this period, candidates from different departments—Science, Commercial, and Art—will sit for various subjects, including major core subjects like:
- English Language
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Literature in English
- Government
- Economics
- Financial Accounting
Some days on the timetable are reserved for public holidays such as Workers’ Day (May 1st) and Eid al-Adha, during which no exams will be held.
Whether you’re offering science, commercial, or art subjects, it’s important to know your exact starting and ending dates based on your registered subjects. That’s why the full WAEC timetable is very important for your preparation.
Important Things to Know About the WAEC Timetable 2025
Before you start studying with the timetable, there are a few important things every candidate should understand. These details will help you avoid confusion and plan better.
1. Some Subjects Have Multiple Papers
Most WAEC subjects come in two parts: Essay (Paper 2) and Objective (Paper 1). You must write both to complete the subject. For example, Economics has Essay in the morning and Objective right after. Don’t skip any part because they all count towards your final score.
2. Practical and Oral Exams Are in Sets
Subjects like Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Animal Husbandry, Computer Studies, and Auto Mechanics include practicals that are divided into 1st Set and 2nd Set. This means not all candidates will do their practical at the same time.
Your school will tell you which set you belong to. Make sure you go for the correct session to avoid being marked absent.
3. Public Holidays Are Included in the Schedule
There are breaks in the timetable due to holidays. For example:
- Thursday, 1st May 2025 is Workers’ Day
- 5th to 9th June 2025 is reserved for Eid al-Adha
No exams will hold on those days, so you can rest or revise.
4. Some Papers Clash in Time
In some cases, two papers seem to be fixed for the same time. Don’t panic if that happens to your subjects. WAEC allows schools to handle such clashes internally. You might write one paper earlier or later on the same day. Your school will guide you.
5. WAEC Can Make Changes
Always keep checking with your school in case there are last-minute changes to the timetable. WAEC can shift or adjust paper times due to national emergencies or technical issues.

This timetable covers all key subjects across Arts, Sciences, and Commercial fields, such as English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Literature in English, Government, Economics, Financial Accounting, and more.
Take your time to study it and identify the dates for the subjects you registered for. Pay close attention to the paper types (Essay, Objective, Practical) and the time slots. How to Use the WAEC Timetable to Prepare Well
Having the WAEC timetable is one thing, but knowing how to use it wisely can make a big difference in your performance. Below are simple steps that can help you stay organized and confident as the exam approaches.
1. Identify Your Subjects First
Start by going through the timetable and marking only the subjects you registered for. There’s no need to focus on all the subjects in the timetable. Highlight just your own so you can easily track them.
2. Create a Personal Study Plan
Now that you know your exam dates, use them to build a simple study timetable. Focus more time on the subjects that are coming up soon or the ones you find difficult. Make sure to leave space for revision and practice tests.
3. Break Your Preparation into Weeks
Divide your preparation based on the exam weeks. For example, if a subject is scheduled for the second week of WAEC, aim to finish reading and revising it a few days before the exam. This helps reduce stress and allows enough time for all subjects.
4. Don’t Ignore Practical Subjects
Subjects like Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Animal Husbandry, and Computer Studies have practical sessions. Take them seriously because they carry a lot of marks. If you’re in the second set, still arrive early and pay attention.
5. Stick to Your Schedule
Discipline is key. Once you’ve created a study plan using the WAEC timetable, try to follow it closely. Avoid last-minute cramming. Instead, aim for steady, daily progress.
Using the timetable as a guide helps you prepare in an organized way and keeps you from being caught off guard by any paper.
Tips to Avoid Missing Your Exam Dates
Missing a WAEC paper can seriously affect your results, and in many cases, there’s no second chance. That’s why it’s important to stay alert and organized. These simple tips will help you avoid mistakes on exam days.
1. Keep a Copy of the Timetable Everywhere
Print out the timetable and paste it in your room. You can also save a clear copy on your phone or set it as your lock screen so you can check it often. If possible, write out your own subject dates separately and hang them where you can see them daily.
2. Set Daily Reminders
Use your phone to set alarms or calendar reminders a day before and on the morning of each paper. This is especially helpful if you’re writing two subjects in a day or if your paper is scheduled for the afternoon session.
3. Pack Your Materials the Night Before
Don’t wait till morning before packing your pen, pencil, calculator, ruler, and other needed materials. Make it a habit to prepare everything the night before to avoid rushing and forgetting anything important.
4. Arrive Early at the Exam Centre
Always aim to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of the exam. This will give you enough time to settle down, find your seat, and avoid panic, especially if there’s traffic or delay.
5. Don’t Rely on Friends for Time
Even if you’re writing the same paper as your classmates, don’t depend on anyone to remind you of your exam time. People can forget or make mistakes. It’s better to rely on your own plan.
With these simple actions, you can stay ahead and never miss any paper throughout the exam period.
What to Do If Your Practical Is in the Second Set
WAEC practical exams are usually divided into First Set and Second Set because there may not be enough equipment or space for all students to write at once. If you’re placed in the Second Set, here’s what you need to know and do.
1. Confirm Your Set Early
Your school will tell you whether you’re in the first or second set. Don’t assume. Ask your subject teacher or exam coordinator to confirm your name on the list. This avoids confusion or arriving at the wrong time.
2. Arrive at the Exam Centre on Time
Even if you’re in the second set, don’t show up late. Sometimes the first set may finish earlier than expected, and the second session may begin sooner than planned. Being early gives you time to settle and reduces tension.
3. Prepare While Waiting
Use the waiting time wisely. Go over your practical procedures, diagrams, formulas, or terms. But don’t discuss questions with the first set candidates, as WAEC sees that as exam malpractice. Keep your focus.
4. Obey Instructions Strictly
Follow all WAEC and school instructions. Don’t touch materials or equipment until you’re told to do so. Make sure you write your name and details properly on your answer booklet.
5. Stay Calm
Some students panic because they’re not part of the first group. But being in the second set doesn’t mean the exam will be harder. The practical is the same standard for everyone. Just stay calm and confident.
Handling your practical exam responsibly—regardless of the set you’re in—shows good discipline and increases your chances of success.
Final Advice to All WAEC 2025 Candidates
As you get ready for the 2025 WAEC exam, remember that success doesn’t come from last-minute reading or relying on others. It comes from planning, discipline, and consistent effort.
1. Start Preparing Now
Don’t wait until the night before each paper. Use the timetable to plan your daily reading. Cover all your topics, revise past questions, and ask your teachers for help where you’re confused.
2. Stay Healthy and Rested
Eat well, drink enough water, and get enough sleep. Your brain works best when your body is in good shape. Avoid sleepless nights and too much stress.
3. Avoid Exam Malpractice
Cheating is not worth it. You can be caught, disqualified, or banned. Even if others are doing it, stay focused and trust your preparation. Passing on your own gives you confidence for the future.
4. Keep a Positive Mindset
You don’t need to be the best student to pass WAEC. What you need is focus, prayer, and steady reading. Don’t let fear or pressure from others weigh you down. Believe in yourself.
5. Use Your Time Wisely
Time is one of the most important tools you have during WAEC. Use it to prepare, to rest, and to stay ahead. Every day counts from now until the end of the exam.
